Introducing: xQAP Group

It is my great pleasure to introduce the creation of a new research group at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) where I am now serving as Assistant Professor: the Cross Quantum Artistic Practices Group (xQAP). The xQAP group (also pronounced as "no-cap") will focus on the exploration of novel interfaces for Music and Art with quantum technologies. It will host a space to rethink creative practice and practice-based research, and push the limits of Quantum-computing Aided Composition. We will do that within the context of brand new campus research facilities and the vibrant tech industry scene of the "greater bay area", in southern China, to develop both software and hardware creative applications.

2 Funded PhD positions

Seeking 2 highly motivated PhD candidates to join the Cross Quantum Artistic Practices (xQAP) Group at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), with my supervision. The candidate will enroll in the PhD in Computational Media Arts and develop research on Quantum Computing and Creative Practices. The official language for this degree is English. Fully funded: 3 years. Prospective applicants to this position are invited to submit the interest form and attend the next Info Sessions: Nov 18, 10am CST/GMT+8 [online], and Nov 29, 3pm CST/GMT+8 [in person].

Research Assistant positions

Seeking 1 or 2 Research Assistants to join me and the Cross Quantum Artistic Practices (xQAP) Group at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). The work is dynamic, blending technical research support with essential administrative and web development activities, requiring fluency in both English and Chinese. The duration of the position is 11 months and the salary is commensurate with experience. Please see the call details and requirements list here. Deadline: December 6, 2025.
